Face Your Phobia
Exhibition Design
“Face Your Phobia” is an interactive and experiential exhibition centered around uncommon phobias. A phobia is defined as an extreme or irrational fear or aversion to something. This project was heavily influenced by surrealism and utilized unnatural and unsettling imagery. My focus was to design within three-dimensional space and convey information through environmental storytelling. I incorporated bookbinding, sculpture, typography, and illustration to build an overarching brand narrative for the exhibition.

Introduction
I investigated different graphic styles and illustrations to develop a unique brand language. The juxtaposition between clean and expressive iconography creates a feeling of unease.
Sesquipedalophobia
This section of the exhibit dives into the fear of long words. The phobia is commonly associated with having dyslexia or reading aloud in a non-native tongue. I designed an accordion book defining the longest words in the English language to accompany the informational walls. I experimented with distorting letter forms, utilizing vibrating colors, and unconventional book-binding techniques to emphasize the challenges people with this phobia face.

Chronomentrophobia
Chronomentrophobia is the fear of clocks. It is an extension of Chronophobia, the fear of time. From the clocks ticking to the overwhelming chaos, this exhibit is meant to feel suffocating. Inspired by famous surrealist paintings and sculptures, I designed and built a sculpture to accompany the information walls. The zeros in the clock faces represent feeling stagnant while time marches on.
Botanophobia | Necrophobia
Botanophobia is the fear of plants and necrophobia is the fear of dead things. My goal was to juxtapose life and death through visual and physical representations. I built a surrealist sculpture with mannequin parts, plastic skeleton bones, dried flowers, cut flowers, and moss. The sculpture is disjointed, resembling that of a disembodied corpse. The flowers reclaim the body by growing out of the mannequin parts, only to die throughout the exhibition. It is representative of the cycle of life and death.
Ommetaphobia
The final exhibition centers on the extreme fear of eyes. It is a looping animation of multiple eyes projected onto the walls, creating an uneasy feeling that the viewer is being watched.
