Book Corner

Brand Identity

The Book Corner is a second-hand bookstore in Philadelphia. It sells donated books at affordable prices, which makes them more accessible to the public. My goal was to build a unique and consistent design language that highlighted their values as an organization. The design elements center around cats and books, which is what makes the Book Corner unique.

Brand Guidelines

Final Logo

The final logo design was inspired by the friendly cats that lived at the Book Corner. When researching for this project, I learned that their orange tabby, Catticus Finch had sadly passed away. My friends and I had fond memories of visiting him (and Geoffrey Chaucer), and I decided to dedicate this re-brand to him.

The type is a classic serif font and emulates what you might find in a book. It is stacked with a defined corner, calling back to the Book “Corner.”

Process

My goal for the overarching project was for it to feel hand-made with love that reflected the community-based, second-hand nature of the bookstore. For the logo, I experimented with different linocut techniques. I hadn’t done print-making previously, but I wanted to challenge myself. I cleaned up the print and vectorized it for the final logo.
